| Abstract | Este relatório apresenta a metodologia de coleta de dados e a descrição inicial dos resultados obtidos no trabalho de campo, realizado de 14 a 24 de setembro de 2010, no Distrito Florestal Sustentável da BR-163 (DFS da BR-163). Para caracterizar o Distrito em relação ao uso e cobertura da terra, desmatamento e regeneração secundária, e quanto à presença e organização de seus núcleos populacionais, percorreu-se um trajeto ao longo da BR 163, incluindo os municípios de Santarém, Belterra, Aveiro, Itaituba, Rurópolis, Placas, Trairão e Novo Progresso. Unidades de ocupação humana, mapeadas a partir de sensoriamento remoto, foram verificadas em campo quanto a seus limites e organização espacial interna. Algumas comunidades foram também caracterizadas quanto à infraestrutura existente e dinâmica demográfica. Dados de desmatamento e vegetação secundária foram também notificados. Os dados coletados referem-se a registros fotográficos, posicionamento geográfico (GPS), descrições de feições de interesse e entrevistas com informantes chaves em algumas comunidades. Em termos gerais, verificou-se que a região apresenta processos de evolução e consolidação bastante diferenciados, evidenciando espaços com dinâmicas distintas, corroborando trabalhos anteriores. Os núcleos populacionais são carentes de serviços e equipamentos urbanos e a ocupação humana próxima à BR163 depende dos grandes centros urbanos e é condicionada pela dinâmica estabelecida pela presença da rodovia. Atividades de exploração de recursos naturais (serrarias e mineradoras) favorecem a fixação de pessoas e também influenciam na estruturação dos núcleos. Os dados possibilitaram a definição de uma tipologia dos núcleos populacionais e a elaboração de uma superfície de densidade populacional para o DFS. A atividade de desmatamento, apesar de arrefecida, ainda é prática comum na região, ao mesmo tempo em que áreas de vegetação secundária persistem no DFS. A caracterização apresentada e a publicação de trabalhos futuros que aprofundarão as análises sobre os dados coletados, contribuem para o conhecimento do DFS da BR-163 e devem ser úteis para o monitoramento e planejamento de seu desenvolvimento sustentável. ABSTRACT: This report describes the methodology of data collection and initial results of the field work over the Sustainable Forest District of BR-163 highway (DFS BR-163), Pará, Brazil, from September 14th to 24th, 2010. The main goal was to characterize the DFS BR-163 regarding to land use and cover, deforestation and secondary regeneration, and the presence and organization of human settlements. For this, we followed a route along BR-163 highway, including the municipalities of Santarém, Belterra, Aveiro, Itaituba, Rurópolis, Placas, Trairão and Novo Progresso. Boundaries and internal spatial organization from units of human occupation previously mapped from remote sensing images were verified in the field. Infrastructure and population dynamics of some communities were investigated, as well as data related to deforestation and secondary vegetation mapped from remote sensing. Field data was comprised of photographic records, geographical coordinates (GPS), description of features of interest and interviews with key informants. DFS BR-163 presented areas of distinct process of areas of human occupation, as consolidated areas or developing areas, corroborating previous work. Units of human occupation that presented resident population are deprived of urban equipments and services. Most of the settlements by BR-163 highway depend on larger urban centers and the highway access condition. Units of human occupation that presented economic activities mainly related to the exploitation of natural resources (mining and sawmills) favor the establishment of closer population nuclei and modify the spatial arrangement of populated units. Filed data allowed us to propose a typology for the populated units of human occupation, to build a population density surface and to validate a secondary forest mapping for the DFS. This initial characterization contributes to the knowledge of the human occupation process in the DFS BR-163. Results of further analysis of these field work data will also provide useful information for monitoring the sustainable development idealized for this region. | ||||||||||||
