| Abstract | Este relatório apresenta a metodologia de coleta de dados e a descrição inicial dos resultados obtidos no trabalho de campo, realizado de 02 a 12 de outubro de 2011, no sudoeste do Pará e norte do Mato Grosso. Para caracterizar a região em relação ao uso e cobertura da terra, serviços de saúde, desmatamento e quanto à presença e organização de seus núcleos populacionais, percorreu-se um trajeto ao longo da BR 163 e Transgarimpeira, incluindo os municípios de Alta Floresta, Novo Mundo, Carlinda, Matupá, Peixoto de Azevedo, Terra Nova do Norte, Guarantã do Norte, no Mato Grosso, e Novo Progresso, Itaituba e Altamira, no estado do Pará. Unidades de ocupação humana, mapeadas a partir de sensoriamento remoto, foram verificadas em campo quanto a seus limites e organização espacial interna. Algumas comunidades foram também caracterizadas quanto à infra-estrutura existente e dinâmica demográfica. Alterações de cobertura florestal como desmatamento e degradação mapeados pelos INPE foram também verificados. Os dados coletados referem-se a registros fotográficos, posicionamento geográfico (GPS), descrições de feições de interesse e, em algumas comunidades, entrevistas com informantes chaves. Em termos gerais, verificou-se que a região apresenta processos de evolução e consolidação bastante diferenciados, evidenciando espaços com dinâmicas distintas, corroborando trabalhos anteriores. Os núcleos populacionais são carentes de serviços e equipamentos urbanos e a ocupação humana próxima à BR163 depende dos grandes centros urbanos e é condicionada pela dinâmica estabelecida pela presença da rodovia. Ressalta-se que, os núcleos populacionais localizados no Mato Grosso estão melhor estruturados que os localizados no estado Pará. Atividades de exploração de recursos naturais (serrarias e mineradoras) favorecem a atração de pessoas e influenciam na estruturação dos núcleos. Os dados de campo são descritos para três regiões distintas: o norte do Mato Grosso, a região da BR no sul do Pará e a região da Transgarimpeira. Enquanto o norte do Mato Grosso apresenta uma ocupação mais estruturada, a região sudoeste do Pará constitui-se como uma área de fronteira agropecuária e mineral, na qual a atividade de desmatamento, apesar de arrefecida, ainda é prática comum. Essa região está fortemente conectada com o Norte do Mato Grosso, que influencia o processo de ocupação e uso da terra e a estruturação das cadeias da pecuária, mineração, madeira, e grãos, esta última ainda incipiente no sudoeste do Pará. Estudos que envolvem o desenvolvimento de modelos e cenários de mudanças de uso e cobertura da terra nesta região devem levar em conta a heterogeneidade dos padrões e processos de ocupação que compartimenta o DFS BR-163 em áreas com dinâmicas distintas, que se relacionam entre si e com as regiões vizinhas. A caracterização apresentada e a publicação de trabalhos futuros, que aprofundarão as análises sobre os dados coletados, contribuem para o conhecimento do sudoeste paraense, na área de abrangência do DFS da BR 163. Dados de campo são essenciais para validar estudos de sensoriamento remoto, contribuindo para o monitoramento e planejamento do desenvolvimento sustentável da Amazônia. ABSTRACT: This report presents the methodology of data collection and the initial results obtained during the fieldwork, carried through of 02 the 12 of October of 2011, in the southwest of Pará (PA) state and north of the Mato Grosso (MT) state, Brazil. We characterize the region in relation to the land use and cover, health services, deforestation and the presence and organization of its population nuclei. BR 163 federal road and Transgarimpeira, a Pará state road, were covered, including the municipalities of Alta Floresta, Novo Mundo, Carlinda, Matupá, Peixoto de Azevedo, Terra Nova do Norte, Guarantã do Norte, in Mato Grosso, and Novo Progresso, Itaituba and Altamira, in the state of Pará. The limits and the internal organization of human occupation units, previously mapped from remote sensing images, were verified in the field. The infrastructure available and the demographic dynamic were characterized for some communities. Deforestation and forest degradation areas mapped from PRODES and DETER were also recorded. The data collected are photographic registers with geographic positioning (GPS), descriptions of interested features and interviews with key informants in the communities. In general, it was verified that the region presents differentiated processes of evolution and consolidation, determining regions with distinct dynamic, corroborating previous works. The population nuclei are devoid of urban services and equipment. Population settled along BR163 depends on large urban centers and the traffic condition of the highway. Population nuclei located in the MT are better structuralized than the ones located in the PA state. Activities related to natural resources exploration (mainly sawmill and mining) attracts people and they also influence the spatial organization of populated nuclei. Data from fieldwork are described concerning three distinct regions: the north of MT state, the region of the BR-163 in the south of PA state, and the region of the Transgarimpeira road. While the north of MT presents a structuralized occupation, the southwestern of PA region is a mineral and agricultural frontier. This region is strongly connected with the North of MT, that influences the process of land use and the structure of productive chains of cattle, mining, wood, and grain. Grains production is incipient in the southwest of PA. Although currently diminished, the deforestation activity is still a common land management practice, especially in PA state. Models and scenarios studies of land use change and land cover in this region should take into account the heterogeneity of the patterns and processes of occupation that compartmentalizes the DFS-163 BR: there are areas with distinct dynamics that are related to each other, and to neighboring regions. The present characterization, additional to the publication of future works that will deepen the analyses on the collected data, contributes for the knowledge of the southwest Pará region. Fieldwork to validate remote sensing data is central to study land cover and human occupation dynamics, that can help environmental monitoring and planning the sustainable development in Amazon. | |||||||||||||||
